Gijón City Council and the Asturian Energy Foundation sign collaboration agreement

The Asturian Energy Foundation (FAEN) and Gijón City Council through the Municipal Energy Office have signed a collaboration agreement, which reflects the shared interest of Gijón City Council and FAEN in promoting the necessary activities to move towards a more sustainable development. Among its objectives is the sustainable production, storage and consumption of energy.

Both entities also seek to support the creation of Local Energy Communities, promote energy democracy and encourage the use of renewable energies within the municipality.

The agreement includes a commitment to jointly carry out various actions to achieve the following objectives:

  • To promote and develop energy sustainability in Gijón.
  • Carry out awareness-raising, training and dissemination activities on sustainable energy management and renewable energies for municipal staff.
  • Organise events, workshops and seminars to inform companies and citizens about sustainable energy options, especially in terms of photovoltaic installations and energy communities.
  • Develop studies and materials to assess progress in meeting the Sustainable Development Goals in the area of energy sustainability.
  • Develop dissemination and communication activities, in collaboration with the Municipal Energy Office, to raise awareness of energy efficiency solutions, electric mobility, use of renewable energies, rehabilitation of façades, among other issues.
  • Explore the formation of public-private partnerships to achieve these objectives.
  • Exchanging and recognising good practices.

The agreement shall be valid for an initial period of one year and shall be automatically renewed on an annual basis.
